I am an indigenous woman of African descent, the first woman in my family to achieve higher education. My name is Karla Jazmín García Antonio and I was born in Orizaba, Veracruz, Mexico. I studied a degree in intercultural management for development. I am a local and national activist for the National Network of Afro-Mexican Youth. During my time as a student, I was a gender activist, defending women’s human rights and sharing spaces and organizing as women’s circles in the Zongolica mountains and around Orizaba, and internationally as Next Generational Leaders.
